Everything we anticipated and wrote about a few days ago has now come and gone. The Field Reporting Institute is officially over.
The three-day trip was full of learning, emotion and a new form of appreciation. As journalists, we can read and inform ourselves on many topics, but getting the experience in the field is necessary. In this case, it was more than beneficial.
Most of the trip revolved around the concept of local food systems, although getting to experience the wolves and trout fishing put the icing on the cake.
I still have many unanswered questions about certain topics brought up during the trip. There was a lot of information to soak up in a short time. All of the journalists fought through the exhaustion, prolonged hunger and desire for civilization because we found cause in what we were reporting.
Thank you Farm Journal for sponsoring the FRI and to all of the faculty and staff who helped on the trip. You gave us a purpose and reminded us why we do what we do. Sonja Hillgren would be proud.
