Cutting down the right direction

Loggers for Pioneer Forest are practicing the technique of directional cutting to ensure the safety of trees and themselves.

The loggers use the technique to make the tree follow their lead by cutting a hinge that holds the tree and guides its direction.  J&G Logging forestry employees have been using this skill for about the past six years at Pioneer Forest for their safety and to prevent the tree from hitting other valuable trees nearby.

The following is the sound of Jay Duncan felling a Black Oak on Friday, September 23, 2011.
